The department also controlled stray animals across the emirate, including 2,574 cats, 1,092 dogs, 893 camels and 20 foxes.
Over 70,200 requests for pest control services from residents and businesses of Abu Dhabi were processed by the Pest Control Projects Department of the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) from January to the end of August of this year.
Tadweer said on Sunday it has stepped up its pest control efforts since early 2021 to respond quickly to service requests from its customers.
Tadweer’s field and administrative teams have been mobilized as part of its efforts to continuously improve the quality of services and exceed customer expectations. This expresses Tadweer’s priority to promote high standards of public health and safety in the emirate, as envisioned by Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.
Tadweer’s pest control services target different types of pests, such as mosquitoes, flies, rodents and American cockroaches because of their risks to public health and safety.
By offering these services, the center supports the emirate’s sustained efforts to preserve its aesthetic appeal, preserve public health and protect the environment.
According to statistics from Tadweer’s Pest Management Projects Department, American cockroaches accounted for 1.8% of disease-carrying pest infestations in the first eight months of 2021, while rodents accounted for 1.9%, flies 1.8% and mosquitoes 0.6%.
The data also shows that the ministry has been successful in keeping pest proliferation rates below allowable limits in all targeted areas.
The department also effectively controlled different types of stray animals across the emirate, caring for 2,574 cats, 1,092 dogs, 893 camels and 20 foxes.
To ensure effective control of pests and stray animals, the service operates according to a comprehensive action plan that targets all infested sites. It speeds up its operations during seasons when pest proliferation increases due to changing weather conditions in most parts of the emirate.
